Mr. William Blair "Billy" Carnes of Mt. Zion, KY. passed away Friday, August 3 at his residence at the age of 87. Mr. Carnes was born December 14, 1930 in Mt. Zion, KY. to the late Wallace and Amy Carnes. Mr. Carnes was a lifelong farmer and had previously worked 26 years as a meat cutter for the former Grant County Foodliner IGA in Dry Ridge. Mr. Carnes was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association and in previous years was an avid fox hunter. Mr. Carnes was a true patriot and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and earned the Silver Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carnes was preceded in death by his wife: Ailene Sparks Carnes in 1998. He was also preceded in death by 2 daughters: Anita Carnes in 2013 and Brenda Elliott in April of this year. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Donald R. Elliott in 2017.
Mr. Carnes is survived by 2 sons: Bruce Carnes and his wife Pam of Mt. Zion, KY., Douglas B. Carnes of Mt. Zion, KY., 2 daughters: Charlotte Henley of Frankfort, KY., Becky Coldiron and her husband Bill of Crittenden, KY., 2 brothers: Marshall Carnes of Warsaw, KY., Albert Carnes of South Point, OH. Mr. Carnes has 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Carnes will be conducted 1:00 pm Friday, August 10 at the
Mt.
Zion Baptist Church
with Rev. Paul Marksberry and Rev. Floyd Race officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, August 9 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm also at the
Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
There will be additional visitation on Friday at the church from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Memorial contributions if desired may be directed to the family, in care of the funeral home.
