Gary Bruce Nelson

July 1, 1944 - June 23, 2018

Gary Bruce Nelson was born July 1, 1944 in Rockford, IL and passed away June 23, 2018 in Lexington, KY at the age of 73.  He was the son of the late Ernest Rangnar and Verna Marcellia Brennan Nelson.

On May 16, 1998 Gary was united in marriage to Marquitta Ann Beagle Nelson. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son: Michael Hart and his wife Cindy of Cynthiana; 4 daughters: Natasha Gowin of Berry, Bonita Steffey of Curtis, MI, Michelle Fisher and her husband Barry of Curtis, MI, and Carrie Sanden and her husband Jordan of Rockford, IL; and many grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Burnadette Yvette Villani; 2 brothers: Rick and Gordie Nelson; and a sister: Artith Nelson.

Gary was a self-employed carpenter and roofer.  He was the former owner of Gary's Dugout in Rockford, IL which dealt in Baseball cards and sports memorabilia.  Gary will be remembered by his family for his passion for UK Basketball and anything sports related.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, North in Williamstown, KY with Bro. Andy Dixon officiating.  Military Honors will be presented by American Legion Post 4, Florence, KY.
