Gladys Bowles Lucas, a long-time Williamstown, KY resident, was born Aug. 31, 1920 in Barren Co., Kentucky and passed away Nov. 11, 2017 in Landrum, South Carolina at the age of 97. She was a daughter of the late Jesse Harris and Fannie Walker Button Bowles.
On March 9, 1941 Gladys was united in marriage to Roscoe Clayton Lucas who preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1986 following 45 years of marriage.
Gladys was a member of Williamstown United Methodist Church and a retired partner of Lucas Drug Store which was operated by the family in Williamstown for 73 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Sally Moore, and her husband, Arthur, of Travelers Rest, SC; 2 sisters, Betty Browing of Glasgow, Ky. and Juda Furlong of Burnside, Ky.; 2 grandchildren, Douglas Moore of Greenville, SC and Elizabeth Daniel of Travelers Rest, SC; 4 great grandchildren, Casey Daniel of Athens, GA, Emily Charlson of Marietta, GA, Julia Moore of Simpsonville, SC and Lucas Moore of Simpsonville, SC; and 1 great great grandchildson, Davis Charlson of Marietta, GA.
In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Thomas, and a brother, J.C. Bowles, both formerly of Glasgow.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Williamstown Cemetery.
