David Bay "Dave" Covey

May 19, 1953 - October 16, 2017

David Bay “Dave” Covey of Dry Ridge, KY was born May 19, 1953 in Owenton, KY and died Monday, October 16, 2017 at his residence at the age of 64.

He was the son of the late Ervin Bay and Lula Mae O’Hara Covey, a 23 year employee of Toyota Georgetown, a former employee of Square D and Sach’s Automotive, and a member of the Vine Run Baptist Church. On April 28, 1976 he was united in marriage to Catherine Sue Grubbs Covey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother Mickey Covey.

Dave’s grandchildren had a special place in his heart, so much so that he would regularly be persuaded to have tea parties or whatever they wanted him to do at the time. He enjoyed spending quality time with them building with legos, taking rides on the lawn tractor, or just being silly with them. There were few things that could light up his face like his grandchildren.

He had a passion for fishing and loved to go out with his brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren as often as he could. He loved to spend the day out on his boat with his sons and their families. In February he got to take a deep sea fishing trip, which he had discussed with his sons for years. He caught multiple fish in the Gulf Stream with his sons and twin brother Denny. He also went surf fishing for the first time with his sons that trip and reeled in his first fish from the beach.

In May he had the opportunity to take his “once in the lifetime” trip, a cruise to Alaska. He spent time taking in the breathtaking beauty of the Alaskan landscape with his loving wife Sue, twin brother and wife Denny and Kay. It was a trip that brought him immense joy and happiness.

He was also a big sports fan and got the opportunity to sit in the Diamond seats and a private suite at the Red’s ball park in the last couple of years with his family. He also had the opportunity to go to a UK basketball game at Rupp Arena last season to watch his Cats play one last time in person that he really enjoyed. He not only loved watching sports but also enjoyed playing sports as he was a bowler and longtime softball player, even winning a state championship in 1974 with his team the Ambassadors.

Dave was a fun loving man with a deep passion for life, his wife, sons, and their families. He was loyal, dedicated, selfless, and an incredible husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all.

Surviving is his wife Catherine Sue Covey of Dry Ridge; 2 sons, Jonathan (Ellie) Covey of Hebron and Bradley (Nicole) Covey of Burlington; 3 grandchildren, Lilly Makayla, and Chloe Covey; 2 sisters, Sue Blackney of Dry Ridge and Helen (Jess) Lawson of Independence; 6 brothers, Merle (Lucille) Covey of Sparta, Bobby (Beverly) Covey of Napoleon, Donnie (Alice) Covey of Crittenden, Larry (Nancy) Covey of Crittenden, Ricky (Patricia) Covey of Williamstown, and Denny (Kay) Covey of Dry Ridge; 1 sister-in law, Linda Covey of Williamstown; and 19 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, followed by burial at the New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be 11:00am-1:00pm Saturday at the funeral home.
