John Henry Burton

“I believe if you love someone, you should tell them, don’t wait…I love you.” That’s what John Henry Burton, 40, told his wife Emily (Hastings) Burton just a week after their first date, and the rest as they say was history.  They married on January 20, 2007, and in that 10 years, they traveled, had many laughs, and shared big dreams.  However, he was beaming the day that their son, Lucas Henry, was born, and that little boy was his world.  Within a short conversation, you could quickly tell that he loved movies (especially Clint Eastwood movies), science fiction, tools/working in the garage, robotics, and bringing friends and family together for a barbeque.  He was a family man, a protector, generous, loyal, a good provider, and best friend. Since, his passing on March 9, 2017 he will be greatly missed here on earth.

John proudly served his country for more than 20 years in the United States Army, serving two tours of duty during the Operation Iraqi Freedom campaign and one tour of duty during the Operation Enduring Freedom campaign in Afghanistan. He also served in Germany, Honduras, Panama, and South Korea.  He retired from the Army in January 2017 with a long list awards and medals, but had already begun a new career with Nixon Power Company in Louisville, KY.  Although he was dedicated to his service to country, his heart belonged to his family.

If you asked him where he was from, he would say “everywhere” and that was because he was the son of an Airman and Soldier. On March 15, 1976, John was born to the parents of Charles Calvin Burton and Carol Maxine (Spreier) Burton of Maud, OK, both of which precede him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Charlie Burton and niece, Carol Jo Spreier.  Including his wife and son, John is survived by his sister Cindy (Burton) Watson and brother-in-law Bobby Watson of Maud, Oklahoma, 11 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews, as well as his father-in-law, Derek Hastings and mother-in-law, Beverly (Gibbs) Hastings of Demossville, KY.

We will be celebrating his life on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, KY. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with his service starting at 12 p.m., followed by a burial service at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, Williamstown, KY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the VFW or a deposit into a KYUTMA account that has been set up at Heritage Bank in northern Kentucky for Lucas Burton.
