Clarence Raymond Porter was born on July 11, 1928 in Williamstown, Kentucky and passed away at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky on July 16, 2011 at the age of83, He was the son of the late Willie Foster and Bessie Morris Porter.


On July 17, 1954 Ray was united in marriage with the former Alma Ruth Howerton. In addition to his loving wife, Ray is survived by hisson: Ray A. (and Sue B.) Porter of Dry Ridge, his daughter: Belinda G. Porter of Mt. Washington, OH, his sister: Isabelle Smith of Lexington, 3 granddaughters and 3 great grandchildren.Four brothers preceded him in death: James Porter, Obie Porter, Otha Porter and Mitchell Porter.


A retired installer and repairman for Cincinnati Bell, he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Communications of America Union. Mr. Porter was a veteran of the U.S.Army and served his country during theKorean War. He was a member of theWilliamstown Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and Sunday School Supertintendent. He was a former member of the Williamstown Board of Education, the Williamstown City Council, Magistrate of Grant County and was Chairman of the Grant County Democratic Party for over 18 years. He wasnamed Grant County Cattleman of the year in 2001, named Honorary Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture, named Grant Countian of the Year for 1993, Past Master and 50 year member of Grant Lodge #85 F. & A. M., Kentucky Colonel,National Agriculture Statistics Service for 26 counties and ran for Grant County Judge Executive.


Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, KY. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 - 8 PM Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge, KY
