Mary Lawton Poe

Mary Lawton T. Poe, 87, died May 29, 2011 in Williamstown, KY. She was born on Feb. 25, 1924 in Sweet Owen, KY of the late G.C. and Edith Satterwhite Thornton.

She held a Masters degree from the University of Kentucky in Home Economics and Family Living. She was a retired Home Economist with Kentucky Utilities, and was formerly a teacher at Breathitt Co. High School, Jackson City Schools, and Lees Junior College in Jackson, KY. She was a faithful member of Dry Ridge Baptist Church where she served in the WMU and as a former Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Stewartsville Homemakers, UK Alumni, and was Past President of the UK Home Economics Alumni Association.

She is survived by her husband: J.W. Poe of Dry Ridge, KY; one

brother: Louis Thornton of Montpelier, OH; one sister: Ruth Ann Bateman of Brownstown, IN; and several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by 3 brothers: J.B. Thornton, Franklin Thornton, and Bobby Thornton and 1 sister: Edith Virginia Thornton.

Funeral services will beThursday, June 2 at 2:00 PM at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, KY. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. The burial will be in the Owenton IOF Cemetery, Owenton, KY.
