Ernest Paul "Jack" Davis was born in West Liberty, Kentucky in Morgan County on September 15, 1918 and passed away at his residence in Cheviot, Ohio in Hamilton County on April 10, 2011 at the age of 92. He was the son of the late Ambrose and Minnie Elam Davis and a former resident of Gallatin County, near Verona, KY
Mr. Davis is survived by his sons: Paul Davis of Surprise, AZ, Chris Davis of Brownsville, TX and Jeff Davis of Rapid City, SD; his daughters: Jolie Davis of Glendale, AZ, Jona Davis of N. Scottsdale, AZ and Anita Davis of Camden, OH; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.A brother, Leonard H. Davis and a sister, Grethel Davis preceded "Jack" in death.
Mr. Davis spent over 35 years in broadcasting and show business.He became a specialty morning DJ on WCPO and later on WKRC and WSAI in Cincinnati, OH. His was the first voice heard from the Carew Tower after WCPO located there. Old-timers maypossibly remember him workingalongside Waite Hoyt doingplay-by-play for the Cincinnati Reds baseball games. While in Cincinnati he was heard from Union Terminal interviewing travelers with the question "Arriving or Leaving"? He later teamed with a partner, Joe Carney and formed the "Carney & Davis" comedy duoand performed throughout the northeast. While with WCAU in Philadelphia he wasassigned to announce and emcee radio and stage shows featuring a "new kid" from New Jersey - Frank Sinatra.
An ordained minister, he formerly worshiped with the Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Bellevue, KY. He operated the "Idee House" company which specialized in stamps and baseball cards.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, 14635 Walton-Verona Rd., Verona, KY 41092. Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon until 2:00 PM on Friday. Burial will be in the New Bethel Cemetery, Verona, KY. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice.
