Gayla Gwyneath (Perry) Kennedy, age 90 of Charleston and formerly of Williamstown, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Gowin Parc in Mattoon, IL.



Gayla was born October 17, 1920 in Leland, Illinois the daughter of Harry Joseph and Etta Ray (Bennett) Perry. Her mother passed away when she was three and her father at her age seven Following their deaths, she was raised by her step parents, Lillian Bennett Perry Spillman (her mother''s sister) and Lilllian''s husband, Earl. She married Aubrey Kennedy on August 31, 1941 in North Carolina. She and Aubrey enjoyed a loving marriage until his death on May 8, 1998.


Gayla is survived by one daughter, Darlene Bingham of Charleston; two grandsons, Brian Bingham and his wife Marcia of Neoga, Illinois and Dean Bingham and his wife Dr. Colleen Bingham of Effingham, Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Trish Bingham and Mark Bingham, of Neoga and Chelsea Bingham, Jenna Bingham and Andrew Bingham, all of Effingham; one great-great-grandchild, Kyler Tomasello of Neoga; two sisters-in-law, Rena Berry of Mendenhall, Mississippi and Sarah Perry of Brookville, Ohio, and; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her parents; step parents; two brothers, Ralph Perry and Landon Perry, and; one sister, June Perry Swope.


Gayla was a woman of faith and family and she dearly loved both. She took great pride in being a homemaker and most of her time outside the home was committed to her church. She was a past president of the Christian Women''s Fellowship and a long-time Sunday School Teacher for the church youth.


Graveside services will be at 11:00am Monday, January 10, 2011, at the Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, KY. Visitationwill be 9:00am - 10:45am Monday, January 10, 2010, at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, KY.
