Dallas Leroy Marksberry was born on Steele's Bottom in Gallatin County, Kentucky on December 6, 1923 and passed away at the Gallatin Health Care Center in Warsaw, Gallatin County, Kentucky on November 7, 2009 at the age of 85. He was the son of the late Porter and Onie Mae Noel Marksberry.
On October 26, 1946 he was united in marriage with the former Willa Mae Skirvin who preceded him in death on December 9, 2005. From this union two sons: Rusty Marksberry of Glencoe, KY and Lee Marksberry of Verona, KY; and one daughter: Connie Hamilton of Sparta, KY survive. One son, Henry Russell Marksberry died as an infant. Dallas is also survived by two half sisters: Verol Friend of Union, KY and Joan Sparks of Aurora, IN; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. His six brothers and sisters all died earlier.
Mr. Marksberry worked for Interlake Steel Corporation in Newport, KY for many years as a hydraulic pump repairman. He retired in 1980 and then operated "Marksberry Water Service" in Glencoe, KY for many more years. Dallas served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He fought in the "Battle of the Bulge". He was a longtime faithful member of the Sugar Creek Church of Christ in Gallatin County.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Hamilton - Stanley Funeral Home, 14635 Walton - Verona Rd., Verona, KY 41092 with Bro. Richard Denny officiating. Visitation is also on Wednesday at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Glencoe Cemetery, Glencoe, Kentucky.
