Mary Sue Blackburn, of Dry Ridge, was born in Grant County, Kentucky on March 30, 1909 and passed away at the Knight's Nursing Home in Williamstown, Kentucky on October 28, 2009 at the age of 100. She was the daughter of the late Charles Samuel and Florida Beard Pettit.


On May 18, 1927, Mary was united in marriage with Kell Bannie Blackburn who preceded her in death on July 15, 1988. From this union one daughter was born: Faywood Taylor (Mrs. Ralph) of Dry Ridge, KY. In addition to her loving daughter, Mrs. Blackburn is survived by four grandchildren: Rita Taylor, Tom Taylor, Robert Taylor and Rachel Taylor; six great grandchildren: Adam Taylor, Emily Taylor, Jenka Conrad, Alex Taylor, Kate Taylor and Jenna Lockwood; two great great grandchildren: Taylor Conrad and Amelia Taylor; and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Blackburn was one of nine children. All of the others have passed away previously: Johnson Pettit, Lawrence Pettit, Bessie Lafferty, Eugene Pettit, Charles Pettit, William Pettit, Robert Pettit and Martha Pettit.


Mary was a member of the Vine Run Baptist Church where she formerly sang in the choir.


Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, Ky 41097 with visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Burial will be in the New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge, KY. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Elizabeth Home Health Hospice or the Vine Run Baptist Church.
