Bro. Stephen Wayne Alford was born in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky on September 8, 1955 and passed away at St. Elizabeth Grant County in Williamstown, Kentucky on July 10, 2014 at the age of 58 following an apparent heart attack at work. He was the son of Bob and Dorothy Bishop Alford Porter of Verona, Kentucky and the late Arnold Alford, Jr.


In addition to his loving parents, Steve is survived by his wife, Judy Carol Huffman Alford who he married September 15, 1973. From this union two children survive: Tom Alford and his wife, Jackie of Verona and Stephanie Brunner and her husband, Phillip of Lebanon, Tennessee. Also surviving are his brother: Todd Porter of Charlotte, NC; his sister: Karla Porter of Crestwood, KY; his grandchildren: Micah Alford, Faith Alford, Lacey Alford, Eliza Alford, Josie Brunner and Sadie Brunner and many other relatives and friends.


A parttime employee of Grant County Auto and Tire City, Inc., Steve was the Pastor of Gumlick Baptist Church in Falmouth, Kentucky and former Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dry Ridge, East Bend Baptist Church in Boone County, Clover Bottom Baptist Church in Versailles and Belleview Baptist Church in Belleview. He was on the Boards of the Verona Fire Department and the Kentucky Farm Bureau, Boone County. Bro. Steve was a graduate of the Walton - Verona High School, Cumberland College and Southern Theological Seminary.


Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, July 14, 2014 at the New Bethel Baptist Church, 2022 Verona - Mudlick Rd., Verona, KY 41092. Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday at the New Bethel Baptist Church. Memorials are suggested to benefit the South Family Resource Youth Center Weekend Backpack Meal Program in Falmouth, KY c/o Gumlick Baptist Church, Gerald Galloway, 131 Austin Drive, Crittenden, KY 41030.
