Ruth Jeanette Whaley Simpson was born Oct. 21, 1924 in Doudton, Kentucky and passed away Feb. 22, 2014 in Edgewood, Kentucky at the age of 89. She was the daughter of the late Virgil T. and Lula Porter Whaley.
Ruth was a faithful and devoted member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She was also a former telephone operator for Cincinnati Bell in Williamstown, a former cafeteria worker at Grant County High School, and a graduate of Morgan High School.
On March 5, 1949, Ruth was united in marriage to H. Emerson Simpson who preceded her in death on March 21, 2004. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Harold and Emerson Whaley.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Rekenna (Jim)Rogers of Garner, NC and Celisa (Rodney) Edmondson of Williamstown; a sister Fern Lucille Thompson of Williamstown;4 grandchildren: Michael (Lori) Rogers of Smithfield NC, Megan Rogers of Granite Falls, NC, Kelsey (Scott) Yarberry of Richmond, KY, and Blake Edmondson of Williamstown; 1 great granddaughter: Mary Grace Rogers of Smithfield, NC; and 1 step grandson: Brian (Holly) Rogers of Orlando, FL and 1 step great grandson: Wyatt Rogers of Orlando, FL.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Williamstown Cemetery.
