Thelma E. Simpson, resident of Crittenden,was born April 12, 1915 in Canby, Kentucky in Owen County and passed away January 15, 2014 in Crittenden, Kentucky at the age of 98. She was the daughter of the late Gusta and Martha Howard.


On April 14, 1934, Thelma was united in marriage with Vernon Anderson Simpson who preceded her in death December 2, 1981. From this union four children were born: Betty Jean (Ronald) Jones of Corinth, Marie (Denny) York of Crittenden, Edwin (Mavis) Simpson of Crittenden and David (Brenda) Simpson of Williamstown. In addition to her loving children, Mrs. Simpson is survived by a brother, J.D. Howard of Owen County and two sisters: Sylvia Perkins of Owen County and Norma Poe of Owen County, 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Four brothers: Hershel Howard, Floyd Howard, Horace Howard and Robe Howard and four sisters: Eulah Howard, Rachael Chapman, Hazel Simpson and Helen Howard also died before Thelma.


Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker and a charter member of the Sherman Church of Christ, where she had been a choir member and a Sunday School Teacher.


Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Sherman Church of Christ, 1055 Sherman-Mt.Zion Rd., Dry Ridge, KY 41035. Visitation will be at the church from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Friday at the church. Burial will follow in the Hill Crest Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sherman Church of Christ or the Hospice of the Bluegrass, Florence, KY.
