Lewis Alford Bowen was born in Pendleton County, Kentucky on April 25, 1912 and passed away at his residence in Demossville, Pendleton County, Kentucky on January 31, 2009 at the age of 96. He was the son of the late Henry Raymond and Florence Louise Mangold Bowen.


On February 9, 1931 he was united in marriage with the former Clarice ThelmaBlades who preceded him in death on December 6, 1997. From this union one daughter was born: Wilma (Fred) Rose of Demossville, Kentucky. In addition to his loving daughter, Mr. Bowen is survived by one brother: Clyde E. Bowen of Fairborn, OH; three grandchildren: Beverly (Marvin) Davis of Demossville, KY, Kathy (Jeff) Banfield of Falmouth, KY, and Linda (Darren) Justice of Dry Ridge, KY; five great grandchilden: Scott (Amanda) Davis of Demossville, KY, Andrew Justice of Dry Ridge, KY, Matthew Davis of Demossville, KY, Luke Banfield of Falmouth, KY and Madison Justice of Dry Ridge, Ky; three great great grandchildren: Clarissa Davis,Tanner Davis, and Carter Davis all of Demossville, KY and many other relatives and friends. Three brothers: Melvin Bowen, Spencer Bowen, and Chester Bowen and one sister: Hilda Schlueter all preceded Lewis in death.


Lewis was the oldest member of the Unity Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a former church treasurer. He was a carpenter, farmer and formerly operated the Ethridge Grocery. He also served as a bus driver for Pendleton County Schools.


Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, KY 41097. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Pendleton County, KY. Pallbearers will be Scott Davis, Andrew Justice, Matthew Davis, Luke Banfield, Darren Justice and Jeff Banfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Davis, Fred Rose and Doodle Bobb.
