Andrew Barnes was born in Girdler, Kentucky in Knox County on February 21, 1917 and passed away at St. Elizabeth, Florence on February 26, 2015 at the age of 98. He was the son of the late Charlie and Maude Ann Disney Barnes.
Drew, as he was widely known, was united in marriage with Frances Miller on April 5, 1952. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2011.He was survived by two sons,Charles "Chuck"(Randa) Barnes of Prospect, Ed (Jan) Barnes of Cannon, and two daughters, Liz (Layne) Wagoner of Williamstown and Jean Clark of Belle Isle, Florida. In addition to his loving children, Drew is survived by a sister: JoAnn (I.J.) Smith of Romulus, Michigan, 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Three brothers and six sisters preceded Mr. Barnes in death: Dallas Barnes, Denver Barnes, Bobby Barnes, Dorothy Stewart, Genita Bennett, Georgia Morris, Pearl Hall, Nettie Wagers, and Minnie Sobieck.
Mr. Barnes was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Williamstown and a former Deacon of the Living Word Baptist Church. He was a Kentucky Colonel and member of the Teamsters Union Local #100. He had been a truck driver for 29 years driving for Dance Freightlines and later Consolidated Freightways.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, KY 41097. Visitation will be at the funeral home 4:00 - 7:00 PM, Sunday. Burial will take place in the Trace Branch Community Cemetery, in Knox County at 3:00 PM, Monday.
