Lee Roy Simpson was born in the Mason community in Grant County, Kentucky on October 20, 1924 and passed away at his home in Dry Ridge, KY on February 25, 2015 at the age of 90.He was the son of the late Paul and Margaret Coleman Simpson, the oldest of their16 children.


On February 1, 1947, Lee Roy was united in marriage with Emma Redman.From this union, he is survived by daughters: Carolyn (Claude) Kinman of Dry Ridge, Cheryl Penick of Wilmington, Ohio, Bonita (Jim) Utech of Granger, Indiana and Lorie (Wesley) Beach of Dry Ridge; son: Kevin (Janie) Simpson of Florence; daughter-in-law: Sherry Simpson (Gordon) of Dry Ridge.In addition to his loving children, he is also survived by 5 brothers; Glenn Simpson of Morristown, IN, Virgil Simpson of Hollywood, FL, Charles Simpson of Nashville, GA, David Simpson of Cold Springs, KY, Larry Simpson of Williamstown; 3 sisters; Mildred Long of Milford, OH, Joyce Miller of Crittenden, Marjorie Harris of Murfreesboro, TN; 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.Lee Roy was preceded in death by hiswife, Emma,of 66 years, a son: Gordon D. Simpson, two infantdaughters: Debra Simpson and Lisa Simpson, 5 brothers; Paul Jr., Bobby Eugene, Billy, Freddy, and Howard and 2 sisters; Betty Goble and Rose Keene.
An avid Cincinnati Reds fan since he was 8 years of age, Mr. Simpson also loved the University of Kentucky Wildcats.A lifelong farmer, Lee Roy also served his community as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal service for over 20 years and was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II.He attended the University of Wisconsin where he studied Morse Code to assist the Navy in telecommunications.It goes without saying he loved his family,and dairy farm. He was a dedicated deacon and Sunday School teacher where he faithfully served the Lord at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Dry Ridge, KY.Visitation will be 3:00 to 9:00 PM, Monday at the Elliston Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main Street, Williamstown, KY and from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday at the church.Burial will follow at the Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge, KY.Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
