John William Rich was born in Olive Hill, Kentucky on March 19, 1928 and passed away in Williamstown, Kentucky on January 11, 2015 at the age of 86. He was the son of the late Dr. Albert Perrin (A.P.) and Hildreth Eloise Williams Rich.


Bill, as he was usually known, was united in marriage with Jenna Louise "Wesie" Juett on May 28, 1948. Wesie passed away on November 30, 2011. From this union three children survive: Jenna Wellbrock and her husband, Jerry of Wilder, Dr. William Kendall (Ken) Rich and his wife, Cheryl, of Williamstown and Albert Rich and his wife, Rhonda, of Williamstown. There are also 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren to remember their "Papaw Bill". Mr. Rich was preceded in death by his son, John Andrew Rich who died in 2002, his brother, Albert P. Rich, Jr. and his sister Betty Jane Walker.


Bill was active in his community. Early in life he worked at the Halfway House Restaurant, Gas and Cabins, ran the Checkers Movie Theater and sold life insurance. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1983 after serving many years as a Postal Inspector in several communities. Bill was Grant County Treasurer for several years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #86 F. & A. M.in Williamstown as well as a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He also served his country in the United States Army Medical Corps as part of the Japanese Occupation Forces following World War II. He was a faithful member of the Williamstown Baptist Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus and was a life member of the Williamstown Kiwanis Club.


Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Williamstown Baptist Church, 214 N. Main St., Williamstown, Kentucky 41097. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 13 at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, KY 41097 and from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Church. Burial will follow at the Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Williamstown Baptist Church, the Alzheimer's Association or the St. Elizabeth Home Health Hospice.
