Larry Courtney

January 25, 1948 - December 4, 2008

Lawrence Gene "Larry" Courtney, Sr. was born in Covington, Kentucky on January 25, 1948 and passed away at his residence in Walton, Kentucky on December 4, 2008 at the age of 60. He was the son of the late Leomaand Verna May Bagby Courtney.

On May 8, 1970, Larry was united in marriage with the former Kathy Jo Darlington. From this union Larry and Kathy were graced by one daughter: Stephanie Courtney-Roland of Verona, KY and one son: Petty Officer 2nd Class, Lawrence Gene Courtney, Jr of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. In addition to his loving wife and children, Mr. Courtney is survived by two brothers: Gary Dean Courtney of Walton, KY and Terry Leoma Courtney of Independence, KY; four grandchildren: Taylor Roland, Allison Courtney, Ariana Courtney and Ashlynne Courtney.

A graduate of the Walton-Verona High School, Larry wasa Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Walton Lions Club, the New Bethel Baptist Church, and the Walton Good Guys Club. Larry dedicated himself to his community through more than 20 years of service through the City of Walton Police Dept., the Verona Emergency Medical Serviceand the Verona Volunteer Fire Department, where he had formerly served as the AssistantChief.

Mr. Courtney was very proud of his service in the United States Army making two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1965-1973where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Following his service in the Army, He was employed as a lineman for the Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company for over 26 years.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, 14635 Walton-Verona Rd., Verona, KY 41092. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 - 8:00 PM, Monday. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 165 W. Galbraith Rd., Cincinnati, Oh. 45216
