Hedwig "Anne" VanHaitsma

April 1, 1919 - October 21, 2008

Ft. Mitchell, KY - Hedwig "Anne" VanHaitsma, 89, went to the arms of her Saviour Tuesday after a brief battle with pneumonia.

Anne was born to Oscar and Kate (Minderczuk) Rohn in Detroit, Michigan on April 1, 1919. On June 6, 1935 she was married to Frank S. VanHaitsma in Falmouth, Michigan and they were married until his death on April 5, 1990. She worked several occupations, but the one she loved most was as a nurse's aide at Cadillac Mercy Hospital. For most of her ears she was a homemaker and anchor for her 7 children and their families. She was an ardent worker in God's service. When poor health kept her from serving others, she ministered to missionaries through letters, knitted baby blankets for unwed mothers and sweaters for needy children. Her greatest regret at her declining health was that she could not serve others as she wished. She will be remembred as a fun-loving mother, grandmother and friend, full of wit and eager to engage one and all in a game of Scrabble. Most of all, she will be remembered as a faithful prayer warrior.

Anne attended both the Revival Center and First Baptist Church in Cadillac and was most recently a member of Florence Baptist Church in Florence, KY.

Survivors include her 7 children: Virginia (Robert) Schut, Cadillac, MI; Bernice Murray, Cadillac, MI; Vivian Adkins, Euless, TX; Roger (Evelyn) VanHaitsma, Tustin, MI; Robert (Jeannie) VanHaitsma, Delton, MI; Loa (Michael) Dunn, Ft. Mitchell, KY; and Dennis (Anita) VanHaitsma, Dry Ridge, KY. She also is survived by 28 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 33 great-great gandchildren. Survivors also include her brother, Robert (Mary) Rohn, Livonia, MI and her sister, Olga Counterman, Lansing, MI and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 brother.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday at First Baptist Church, 125 Stimson St., Cadillac, MI. Rev. Will Markham and Rev. David McMahon will officate.

Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Peterson Funeral Home, 205 E. Cass St., Cadillac, MI.
