Gilbert Lawrence Halberstadt, of the Keefer community in Grant County, was born in Erlanger, Kentucky on April 19, 1923 and passed away at his home on April 20, 2010 at the age of 87. He was the son of the late Frank Vandergriff and Luaddie Martin Halberstadt.


Mr. Halberstadt was united in marriage with the former Betty Jane Strotman on August 11, 1943. She preceded him in death on October 28, 2009. From this union a son: Gary L. Halberstadt of Independence, KY and a daughter: Linda D. Cleek of Independence, KY were born. In addition to his loving children, Gil is survived by two sisters: Melba Berry of Ripley, OH and Nancy Jane Sallee of Union, KY; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. One grandson, Michael Gilbert Cleek died on May 1, 1987.


Mr. Halbertstadt retired from the Cincinnati Bell Company after many years as a Supervisor. He was a member of the Cincinnati Bell Pioneer Club, the Cincinnati Bell 5 Point Club, the Lions Club of Taylor Mill, KY and the Golden Rule Lodge #345 F. & A. M. in Latonia, KY. He also was a Kentucky Colonel and aa veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Williamstown Baptist Church and formerly was a deacon at the Lawrenceville Baptist Church in Grant County, KY and Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Covington, KY.


Funeral services will be 8:00 PM, Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, KY 41097. Visitation will also be on Friday Evening from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Committal services will take place on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill, KY. Memorials are suggested to the Gideons International, P. O. Box 222, Williamstown, KY 41097.
