Warsaw-Orvel Lykins was born June 18, 1915 in Magoffin County, Kentucky and departed this life Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw, Kentucky, at the age of 94 years, 9 months and 8 days. He was a son of the late Greenville and Minnie Lou Allen Lykins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lykins was preceded in death by his two wives, Effie Annas Holbrook, and Christine Clay. From these two marriages was born a total of fourteen children. Also preceding him in death were two sons, Harold and Henry Clay Lykins, and seven daughters, Genevee Rudd, Barbara Reed, Helen Rosenstiel, Garnett, Kathern, Lula, and Judy Fay Lykins.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Hanson and Juanita Patrick, three sons, Darrell, Ray and Ed Lykins, one sister, Edna Perry, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.
Early in life while living in Magoffin County, Mr. Lykins served as a rural mail carrier carrying the mail on the rural back roads of Magoffin County on a mule. After moving to Northern Kentucky where he lived in Boone and Gallatin Counties, he farmed and worked for a number of years as a custodian in the Gallatin County Schools.
Early in life Mr. Lykins became a Christian and remained a member of the Salem Creek Baptist Church at the time of his passing. He also had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in Salyersville, Kentucky for many years.
Funeral services for Mr. Lykins will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona, Ky. Visitation will be from l2:00 Noon until time of services on Sunday. Burial will follow in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery at Ghent, Kentucky.
