Harry Lloyd Poe, of Dry Ridge,was born in Holbrook, Kentucky in Grant County and passed away at the Walters Nursing Home in Williamstown, Kentucky on July 30, 2010 at the age of 92. He was the son of the late Lonnie and Alice Montgomery Poe.
Harry was united in marriage with Emma Kathleen Hutton Poe on April 14, 1954. She preceded him in death on August 7, 1989. From this union one son, Roger Poe of Dry Ridge and one daughter, Patty Poor of Crittenden were born. In addition to his loving children, Mr. Poe is survived by three grandchildren, one great grandson, two sisters, Melva Rosencrans of Lebanon, Ohio and Donna Mae Taylor of Erlanger, KYand many other relatives and friends. One sister, Martha Helen Howe also preceded Harry in death.
Mr. Poe served his country during World War II in the United States Navy for over 5 years. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received during the conflict. Harry was a lifelong farmer, a member of the Bethany Cemetery Association and an active member of the Knoxville Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and songleader.
Funeral services will be 7:30 PM Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N. Main St., Williamstown, KY. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3:00 PM - 7:30 PM Wednesday. Burial will take place at the Bethany Cemetery in Holbrook, Kentucky at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 5, 2010. Memorial contributions should be made to the Bethany Baptist Church, Knoxville Baptist Church or the Gideons International.
