Barbara Jane Brown (Loomis), 79, of Williamstown died Sunday, January 15, 2017. She retired as an RN from Bethesda Oak Hospital in Cincinnati. She also worked several years at Grant County Hospital/St Elizabeth.
Barbara graduated from the Booth Hospital School of Practical Nursing, then obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Northern Kentucky University, graduating Summa Cum Laude, all while raising 4 children. Her professional passion was Emergency Nursing. She taught CPR, 1st Aide and various trauma courses, as well as safe driving classes for senior citizens. She was a Red Cross Disaster team member, primarily assisting fire victims, as well as those from the Falmouth flood. She was a past president of the Ohio Emergency Nurses Association.
Barbara was an avid local historian and genealogist. She spearheaded saving historic Sherman Tavern from demolition in Dry Ridge. She, along with her husband, Bob, worked diligently to preserve and maintain that structure, along with the William Arnold Log House in Williamstown. Together they devoted much time keeping the Log House open to the public. Barbara also held several positions over the years with the Grant County Historic Society and continued to work in their office to assist people locally and around the country who had family ties to Grant County and were seeking genealogy information. She was a contributing writer for the Encyclopedia of Northern Kentucky and had several articles published in various historical periodicals.
Barbara was a member of the Captain Lillard Daughters of American Revolution, the Williamstown Women’s Club, and the Women’s Order of the Moose. She and Bob enjoyed entertaining on a large scale at their Grant County home on Chipman Ridge. She worked tirelessly for decades to maintain a close extended family.
She faithfully served the Lord as a member of Good Shephard Lutheran Church in Florence.
She was preceeded in death by her parents Jesse William Loomis and Callie Marie Pipes Loomis, two brothers, Bill and Bob, as well as her beloved daughter in law, Susan Harrison Brown. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert Lee Brown. She is also survived by her children, David Lee Brown, Covington, Ky, Sally Brown Powell, Berry, Kentucky, James Brown, Cincinnati, Ohio, Carolyn Brown Jump (Jeff), Union, Ky, as well as Carolyn Cassidy, Erlanger, whom she loved as a daughter.
She is also survived by 13 adoring grandchildren, and 11 cherished great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way; as well as countless friends, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be Friday 4pm to 8pm, Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, 500 North Main St., Williamstown, KY. Funeral Service: Saturday, 11AM. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 9066 Gunpowder Road, Florence Kentucky. Graveside service at Floral Hills, Taylor Mill. Lunch to follow at Good Shepherd.
