James Delano Helvey was born August 29, 1940 in Brooksville, KY and passed away June 19, 2016 in Walton, KY at the age of 75. He was the son of the late James Taylor and Hallie Haley Helvey.
Jim was the former owner/operator of the Verona Market and Glencoe General. He was also a former delivery truck driver for Butternut Bread. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Verona. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and walking the trails at Big Bone Lick State Park.
On Feb. 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to Karen Mary Kemper Helvey who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2001. Jim is survived by 2 sons: Robin Helvey (Becky) of Verona and Jonathan Helvey of Walton; a daughter: Cindy Helvey Judd of Walton; 3 grandchildren: James Kendall Collins, Joshua Caleb Collins and Tiffany Ellen Helvey; and 2 great grandchildren: Kaia Janes Collins and Autumn Kate Collins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Virginia Moore Reubusch and a brother: Woodrow Wilson Helvey.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. George Naylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
