Mrs. Betty Jo Coomer, of Crittenden, KY. passed away Thursday, September 24 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. at the age of 79. Mrs. Coomer was born September 11, 1936 in Dry Ridge, KY. to the late Fred and Ada Tomlin Elliott. Mrs. Coomer was a seamstress for Red River Hat Co. as well as Sizemore Manufacturing and prior to that she had worked as a bookkeeper for Bi-County Co Op in Florence. Mrs. Coomer was also a devoted homemaker who lovingly cared for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baking for everyone and loved her crafts, sewing and quilting. She was active with the Crittenden Senior Citizens and served as the group's president. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Coomer was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Coomer on September 20, 2008 and by a half-sister, Shirley Engle. Mrs. Coomer leaves to mourn her passing 3 sons: Harold E. "Moochie" Coomer of Alexandria, KY., H. F. Coomer of Crittenden, KY., Robin W. Coomer of Dry Ridge, KY., 1 sister: Rita Rayburn of Dry Ridge, KY., 2 brothers: Eugene Elliott of Union, KY., Fred "Poncho" Elliott of Winchester, KY. and she was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jo Coomer will be conducted 10:30 am Tuesday, September 29 in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Barnes officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, September 28 from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Burial will be in the Crittenden Cemetery. Memorial contributions if desired may be directed to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to St. Elizabeth Hospice.
