Mr. Ruben Donald Bingham, of Mt. Zion, passed away Wednesday, May 27 at home at the age of 88. Mr. Bingham was born August 27, 1926 in Grant County, KY. to the late Ruben Samuel Bingham and Grace Hoard Bingham. Mr. Bingham retired on April 30, 1984 from the United States Department of Agriculture as a soil conservationist after 24 years of service. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army and he entered service in Ft. Hayes, OH. on Nov. 1, 1946 and was honorably discharged from Camp Stoneman,CA. on May 6, 1948. Mr. Bingham made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ early in life and was a longtime member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was a Sunday school teacher for 60 years. He formerly served as moderator, clerk and treasurer for the Ten Mile Baptist Association and was a member of the Gideons. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bingham was preceded in death by sisters: Garnette (Alton) Stephenson, Ruth (Gerald) Eckler, brothers: Eugene Hugh (Betty) Bingham, Wilbur D. (Pauline) Bingham, William Ray (Ermany) Bingham, a grandson: Nelson Craig Glacken and sons-in-law: Nelson Frederick Glacken and Amos Haley. Mr. Bingham leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 66 years: Fredericka Ferrell Bingham, 2 daughters: Garlene Glacken-Haley of Dry Ridge, KY., Gracella (Gerald) Morris of Cullowhee, NC., 1 son: Harold Ray (Debby) Bingham of Warsaw, KY., Grandchildren: Chris (Barb) Glacken, Cara (Brad) Martin, Brandl Skirvin, Stephanie (Mark) McCord, Seth (Adrianna) Skirvin, Sarah (Travis) Bingham Boles, Grace Morris, Will Morris, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Ruben Donald Bingham will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, May 30 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Marksberry officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 29 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating at the graveside. Memorial contributions if desired may be directed to the Gideons or to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund.
