Mrs. Dorothy C. Eckler of Florence, KY. formerly of Dry Ridge, KY. passed away Tuesday, September 30 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Care Center in Edgewood, KY. at the age of 89. Dorothy was born on March 17, 1925 in Clarington, OH. to the late Warren George Criss and Rose Zydner Criss. Dorothy worked for the Revlon Company as a manager. She was also employed by the Jergens Company and Avon. Dorothy attended the University of Cincinnati majoring in Accounting. Dorothy was very active in the community, one of the first "Prompters" for The Playhouse in the Park, preparing and serving hors d' oeuvres prior to a show. The last 20 years of her life she was an ambassador at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Dorothy was known as the jitterbug queen with the U.S.O. where she loved to volunteer. She also knitted scarves for the homeless at Fairhaven Rescue Mission. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Eckler on October 11, 2002. Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing a step-daughter: Ann (Jim) Brewer of Erlanger, KY; Step-son: Jim (Sharon) Eckler of Louisville, KY; A sister: Marjorie McDaniel of Cincinnati, OH; Step-grandchildren; Patrick Brewer of Northern KY, Ryan Eckler of Louisville, KY and Elizabeth Eckler of Louisville, KY; Nieces: Sarah McDaniel of Cincinnati, OH, Judith White of Harrisburg, PA and Sharon Lynn Kifer of Walnut Creek, CA; A grand-niece: Jessica Sage of Cincinnati, OH. A graveside service will be conducted 1pm Saturday, October 4 at the HillCrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge with Rev. Bill Owens and Rev. Chuck Myser officiating. Following the graveside service a memorial service and meal will be held at the Richwood Presbyterian Church, 1070 Richwood Road, Walton, KY. 41094. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, American Cancer Society, Alzheimers Association, U.S.O. and the Richwood Presbyterian Church. The Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Mrs. Dorothy Eckler.
