Mr. John Emery Childress of Williamstown, KY. passed away Thursday, July 31 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Williamstown at the age of 86. Mr. Childress was born July 19, 1928 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late George & Beulah Forbes Childress. Mr. Childress retired after 40 plus years of service as a general car foreman with the CSX Railroad. He served his country in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean War. At the time of his passing he was a faithful member of the Vine Run Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master of Wilmington Lodge #362 F & AM, he was a 32d degree mason in the Indra Consistory of the Scottish Rite, a member of the York Rite and a member of Oleika Temple of the Shrine in Lexington, KY., Mr. Childress was a Kentucky Colonel and he worked part time for 27 years as an insurance solicitor. He enjoyed traveling and going to Renfro Valley, he enjoyed farm work, carpentry and is fondly remembered by his family for his love of eating. Mr. Childress leaves to mourn his passing his wife: Geraldine Crouch Childress. 2 daughters: Sharon (Chuck) Black & Sandy (Chris) Hartman both of Morningview, KY., 1 stepdaughter: Vicki (Jim) Dailey of Latonia, KY., 2 sons: Rick (Paula) Childress & Ken (Donna) Childress both of Morningview, KY., 1 stepson: Chris (Tammy) Justice of Frankfort, KY., 1 brother: Daniel Childress of Independence, KY., 5 sisters: Bea Brown of Williamsburg, KY., Ruth Thomas & Christine Hall both of Florence, KY., Edna Mullius of Williamsburg, KY. & Mattie Erion of Bradenton, FL. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Funeral services for Mr. Childress will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, August 3 in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, KY. with Rev. David Foley officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, August 2 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Masonic services will be Saturday at 7:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be in the New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Vine Run Baptist Church.
