Paul Marshall Gordon

December 1, 1930 - June 20, 2014

Sgt. Paul Marshall Gordon was born December 1, 1931 in Grant County, KY. to the late Doll and Urie Gordon. Sgt. Gordon was attached to the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea. He was an infantry soldier who also cooked for the unit. On January 7, 1951 his unit was attacked in the Won Ju Provence of what is now South Korea, they retreated because they were severely outnumbered. After the retreat the unit re-grouped and conducted a head count and determined that Paul and 32 other soldiers were missing. It was later determined that Paul was taken as a POW. Witnesses in the same POW Camp said he died in May or June of 1951 of an illness. In May of 1992 N. Korea turned over 15 crates of remains. Paul's remains were taken from the Suan Village Camp. The remains of all 400 soldiers were taken to the National Cemetery in Honolulu and put in the tomb of the unknown, known better as the Punch Bowl. Out of the 400 soldier's remains that were in the 15 crates, 38 were identified including Paul. In 1999 DNA was taken from Paul's sister Dorothy and his brother Arthur (that's when they found out for sure he was a POW and the Army may have his remains). The family found out on January 3, 2014 that Paul's remains have been positively identified. Sgt. Gordon had several siblings who are now deceased. They are: Evaline Sydnor, Aurtha Gordon and Clifford Gordon. Sgt. Gordon is survived by a sister: Mrs. Dorothy Gayhart of Crittenden, KY., nieces: Mickey Sanders of Port Orchard, WA., Paula Gordon of Crittenden, KY., Barbara Jones of Dry Ridge, KY., Donna Plunkett of Crittenden, KY. and Debbie Tapp of Virginia and by nephews: Pete Loomis of Crittenden, KY., Billy Loomis of Martinsville, IN., Joe Gordon of Dry Ridge, KY., Jerry Gordon of Crittenden, KY., Tony Gayhart of Burlington, KY. and Donald Gordon of Crittenden, KY. He also is survived by several extended family members. Funeral services for Sgt. Paul Marshall Gordon will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, June 20 at the Sherman Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Hildebrand officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 19 at the Sherman Baptist Church from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be at 1:00 pm on Friday at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY. The arrangements for Sgt.
