Charles Edward Dills

Mr. Charles Edward Dills, of Dry Ridge, KY. passed away Friday, January 17 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center at the age of 79. Mr. Dills was born May 2, 1934 in Williamstown, KY. to the late Walter Carl Dills, Sr. and Martha Mae Patrick Dills. Mr. Dills was the owner and operator for 50 years of the Dills Insurance Co. in Dry Ridge. Always active in the Grant County School System, Mr. Dills was a former school teacher, basketball coach and former member of the Grant County Board of Education. As a young man, Mr. Dills worked with his parents at Coney Island in Cincinnati and in more recent years Mr. Dills, who was also a cancer survivor, was a volunteer with the Grant County Relay for Life and served on the Board of Directors of the Grant County Deposit Bank. Mr. Dills was a member of the Kiwanis Club and owned the former Grant County Real Estate and Auction Co. Mr. Dills was named an honorary Grant County Deputy Sheriff and at the time of his passing Mr. Dills was a member and served as Elder of the Dry Ridge Christian Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dills was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Dills on July 14, 2009. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers: Donald Ray Dills, Walter Carl Dills, Jr. and D. W. Dills. Mr. Dills leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, Gwen Marksberry Dills. He has 1 son: Chuck (Sarah) Dills of Williamstown, KY., 2 daughters: Missy (J. P.) Colson of Dry Ridge, KY. and Karen (Mark) Middleton of Dry Ridge, KY., 1 sister: Helen Ruth (Ira) Wells of Sarasota, FL. Mr. Dills was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Blake, Brennen, Bianca, Brooklynn and Brylee Dills all of Williamstown, KY., Hannah and Hunter Colson of Dry Ridge, KY., Cameron and Jemison Beavers of Dry Ridge, KY. Funeral services for Mr. Dills will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, January 24 at the Dry Ridge Christian Church with Rev. Bob Silvanik and Rev. Barry Robinson officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 23 from 4:00 - 9:00 pm at the Dry Ridge Christian Church and on Friday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to the Dry Ridge Christian Church. Those serving as pallbearers are: Blake Dills, Brennen Dills, Cameron Beavers, Don Wells, Paul Dills and Chris Marksberry. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Colson and Jemison Beavers. The Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home of Dry Ridge, KY. has been entrusted with the arrangements for Mr. Dills.
