D. W. "Bill" Dills, of Mt. Zion, KY. passed away Sunday, May 15 at his residence at the age of 84. Mr. Dills was born April 30, 1927 in Williamstown, KY. to the late Walter Carl Dills, Sr. and Martha Mae Patrick Dills. Since 1986, Mr. Dills has been the president and served as chairman of the board at the Grant County Deposit Bank and has served on the board since 1976. Earlier in life he was a tobacco buyer for Liggett & Meyers Tobacco Co. and a lifelong farmer. He owned and operated the Dills Angus Farm since 1958, was a member of the Grant County Cattleman's Assoc. and the American Angus Association. Mr. Dills served in the Merchant Marine during World War II and was a captain in the US Army during the Korean War. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Dry Ridge Christian Church. Mr. Dills was a former mayor and fire chief for the city of Dry Ridge and a member of the former Dry Ridge Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Grant County Industrial Development Authority and was instrumental in getting the Veterans Cemetery in Williamstown and locating and obtaining land for the Fair Board. He was a contributor to the 4H, a member of the Board of Directors of the Grant County Hospital and was the first to advise that the hospital become associated with St. Elizabeth Medical Centers. Mr. Dills was preceded in death by his wife: Ruth Franks Dills who passed away one day before him, on Saturday, May 14 in Williamstown. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Dills was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Donald Ray Dills and Walter Carl Dills, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Dills were preceded in death by two children, one died March 31, 1954 and the other died May 1, 1957. Mr. Dills is survived by a son: Paul M. Dills of Mt. Zion, KY. He has 1 brother: Charles (Gwen) Dills of Dry Ridge, KY. and 1 sister: Helen Ruth Dills (Ira) Wells of Sarasota, FL. Funeral services for Mr. Dills will be conducted Sunday, May 22 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home, Dry Ridge with Rev. Wayne Barnett officiating. Visitation will be there on Sunday from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
