Walter Carl Dills, Jr., of Crittenden, KY. passed away Wednesday, May 26 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Williamstown, KY. at the age of 81. Mr. Dills was born January 13, 1929 in Williamstown, KY. to the late Walter Carl Dills, Sr. and Martha Mae Patrick Dills. Carl served in the Army Air Corps immediately from high school serving 3 years then transferring to the Air Force where he retired after 22 years of service to his country. During his Air Force years, Carl and family lived in many domestic and international locations. Retiring back to his native northern Kentucky, he held numerous professions including serving as Director of Weights and Measures for the State of Kentucky for approximately 20 years. Carl also owned the Dills Amusement Company for the last 35 years, which included private contracting and consulting with national safety organizations regarding amusement safety, teaching, training and certifying in the safety amusement business and was one of the founding members of the NAARSO organization in America. Carl was preceded in death by his three oldest sons: Walter Carl Dills, III, Dennis Darrell Dills and Danny Duane Dills, by a brother: Donald Ray Dills and by his parents. Mr. Dills is survived by 3 children: Megan Marie Dills of Crittenden, KY., Patrick Carl Dills of Dry Ridge, KY. and Pamela Marie Dills (Dan) Chips of Knoxville, TN. He has 2 brothers: Charles E. (Gwen) Dills and William D. (Ruth) Dills, all of Dry Ridge, KY. He has 1 sister: Helen Ruth Dills (Ira) Wells of Sarasota, FL. and he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Dills will be conducted on Sunday, May 30 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of the Eckler-McDaniel Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be there on Saturday from 5-9 pm and on Sunday from 1:00 until the funeral hour. Burial will take place at a later date in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
