Afton Dyer

Afton Dyer, 78, of Corinth, KY, died Wednesday November 1, 2023 at his residence after a lengthy and courageous illness surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 19, 1945 in Salyersville, KY, he was the son of the late Austin and Marie Allen Dyer. On July 5, 1968, Afton was united in marriage to the former Bonnie J. Wright; she survives. He owned and operated Dyer Meter Service where he served as a water meter technician. As a self-proclaimed comedian, Afton brought a lot of laughter into the lives of friends and family with his fun-loving joking personality. Working hard was always at the peak of his interest, whether it be at his business or on the farmland he loved to work. Driving his 1956 Thunderbird was an enjoyable experience, but his greatest fulfillment came from spending time, eating and enjoying special moments with his family. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army where, because of his bravery, became a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. Survivors, in addition to his wife of 54 years, Bonnie, include two daughters: Christa Dyer-Wilson of Corinth, Marla (Michael) Dyer-Morris of Corinth; two brothers: Aaron Dyer of Owenton, Donnie (Peggy) Dyer of Corinth; four sisters: Arbiedella “Della” Richerson of Jonesville, Anita (James) Wright of Corinth, Jeanette (Jimmy) Franklin of Georgetown and Denise Epperson of Barbourville, along with two grandchildren: Ellee Afton Morris and Marleigh Faith Wilson. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Densel Dyer, Ronnie Dyer, Lonnie Dyer and one sister: Marcella Scudder. Visitation will be Monday November 6, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes – Williamstown. Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 7, 2023 at 11:00 at Stanley Funeral Homes-Williamstown with Pastor Jimmy Sears officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan Cemetery in Pendleton County.
