Barbara J. Bates

Barbara Jean Bates was born January 29, 1945 in Kentucky and passed away March 16, 2022 in Edgewood, Kentucky at the age of 77. She was the daughter of the late Roger and Bertha Williams Sewell.

On Dec. 23, 1961 Barbara was united in marriage to James Robert Bates who preceded in death on June 3, 2006.  Barbara is survived by 3 daughters: Deborah Wiggins of Union, Christina Gadd (Phillip) of Manchester, TN and Lisa Newman (Randy) of Bracken County, KY; 8 grandchildren: Jason Wiggins, Jacob Wiggins, Jennifer Wiggins, Joshua Overstreet, RJ Haines, Ambrosia Gadd, Dalton Parson and Desirae Thacker; and 13 Great Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother: Billy Sewell.

Barbara was a homemaker and lifelong member of First Methodist Church in Covington.  She also actively supported many different local ministries.  Her faith and family were the most important parts of her life.  She was the family matriarch who kept everyone together, especially during holidays and family meals.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden.  Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge.
