Ben Richard Johnson , 86, of Dry Ridge, KY, entered into his eternal rest Saturday September 21, 2024 at the residence of his son. Born on July 26, 1938 in Verona, KY, he was the son of the late Walter Richard and Lottie Alexander Johnson.
On June 21, 1959, “Benny” was united in marriage to the former Mary Janet Brock; she preceded him in death on October 29, 2016. He was a 1956 graduate of Grant County High School. For many years he served as a Ramp Agent for Delta Airlines. He, along with his late wife, were actively involved in Helping Hands, a local ministry where they volunteered regularly. During his time at Delta, Ben, along with others friends, bought a plane that they admiringly referred to as the “Spirit of Delta”. Farming played an intricate part of his life; he enjoyed raising tobacco and Limousin cattle; he was a member of the Grant Co. Cattlemen’s Association. He will long be remembered for being a U.K. Wildcat enthusiast and collecting an assortment of U.K. attire; nothing brought him more satisfaction than wearing his special “U.K.” vest. He was a member of Dry Ridge Christian Church.
He leaves to carry on his legacy, one son: Steven Bradley (Dena) Johnson of Dry Ridge, KY; one sister: Nancy Rodgers of Butler, KY and three very special granddaughters, Sabrina Nicole (Chad) Bedard, Whitney Michelle Johnson and Mallory Hope Johnson; they lovingly knew him as their “Grampy”. Several cousins as well as nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Johnson and a sister, Virginia Kay Smith.
