Bernadine Mullins of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, went home to be with her Lord early Tuesday morning, March 12th, 2024; she was 76 years old. She was born in Elliston, Kentucky on Wednesday, July 30th, 1947 to the late Chester and Alma Edmondson. In addition to her parents, Bernadine is preceded in death by her four brothers: Charlie, Broadus, Danny, and Delano Edmondson.
On Friday, November 1st, 1963, Bernadine married the love of her life, Vernon, at the Vine Run Baptist Church in Dry Ridge. It was at Vine Run Baptist that they met and fell in love; Vernon was in the parking lot of the church working on his car when they first crossed paths and the rest was history. They would spend the next six decades of their lives laughing, loving, and fishing together; the two would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this November. Together they would raise their adoring daughter, Deanna (Terry) Caldwell of Corinth, Kentucky. Over the years Bernadine became a maternal figure to her surrogate daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Bodie, as well as a grandmother to Stephanie’s daughters: Carmen, Cara, and Caitlin, all of Hampton, Georgia. Bernadine leaves a lasting legacy of her two cherished grandchildren: Sheena (Caleb) Walters and Lacey (Will) Threlkeld; as well as her four treasured great-grandchildren: Croix Walters, Crew Walters, Raylee Threlkeld, and Westin Threlkeld.
Bernadine was a devoted member of the Elliston Baptist Church in Dry Ridge for over 10 years where she beautifully played the piano and organ for the congregation during services. Though she wasn’t an avid fisherman herself, one of her greatest joys in life was driving the fishing boat across the lakes as Vernon cast out his lines. Often she sentimentally recorded in a book the date, the lake they had fished that day, and the number of fish Vernon had hauled in while they were out on the water. While he fished, she would read, another of her greatest joys in life. A big Nora Roberts fan, Bernadine had a huge collection of books that she read throughout her life, anything history and biblical related being among her favorites as well. To her, reading, time out on the lake, church, and family were her entire life.
Private services for Bernadine will later be conducted at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial donations be made in Bernadine’s name to the St. Elizabeth Home Hospice Care of Northern Kentucky, those individuals that cared so dearly for her during her final days. Those memorials can be made directly to St. Elizabeth Hospice, or collected here at Stanley Funeral Homes for donations to later be passed along to the hospice care team in her name.
