C. R. "Coach" Wenderoth

C.R. “Coach” Wenderoth of Dry Ridge, KY was born August 21, 1934 in Dayton, KY and died Sunday March 6, 2022 in Florence, KY at the age of 87.

He was the son of the late Carl Anthony and Ann Estelle Nicholson Wenderoth. He was a retired teacher, principal, and coach, working at Ludlow High School, Grant County High School, and Scott High School, and was a member of the Dayton Presbyterian Church. On August 28, 1955 he was united in marriage to his wife Dina Brewer Wenderoth who passed away the following day on March 7, 2022. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Diane Wenderoth.

Coach was recognized for his many accomplishments throughout his career; a graduate of Union College with 3 majors; Master Degree at Xavier University; Athletic Director, head basketball coach, baseball coach and golf coach Grant County High School 1964-84 and 1991-95; head basketball and golf coach Scott High 1985-90; Coach of Eighth Region Championship Basketball team 1979 and Eighth Region Coach of the year 1979 and runner-up KY State coach of the year 1979; Coach Nineth Region Championship Basketball team 1989 and Nineth Region Coach of the Year 1989; Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame, Grant County and Scott High School Hall of Fames and the Kentucky Basketball Coaches Walk of Fame.

Surviving is 1 son, Carl A. “Buzz” Wenderoth of Anderson Township, OH, 1 daughter, Niki R. Wenderoth-Matt of Williamstown, 4 grandchildren, Sean and Scott Wenderoth and McKenzie and Seth Matt, and 1 great-grandchild, JP Wenderoth.

Funeral services for Coach and Dina will be 3:00pm Friday, March 11, 2022 at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will also be Friday 11:00am-3:00pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations are suggested to Grant County High School, Scott High School, or Ludlow High School Boys Basketball Program.
