Mr. Lloyd Calvin Martin, 89, of Ormond Beach, Florida, peacefully passed away on December 3rd, 2024.
Born on June 20th, 1935, in Corinth, Kentucky, Calvin was the son of Floyd and Theresa Martin. He graduated from Boone County High School in 1953, where his class size was only twenty students. In 1955, Calvin enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a Radio Operator, primarily stationed in Germany. He continued his service in the Army Reserve until his honorable discharge on December 7th, 1961, as a Private, First Class, Armor Division.
In January of 1962, Calvin married his beautiful late wife, Joyce Lee Carty, in Florence, Kentucky. Together, they shared fifty-two years of marriage until her passing in 2014. Calvin, Joyce, and their young son, Doug, moved to Orlando, Florida, in 1965, where Calvin began his career as a line supervisor at Martin Marietta. While working at Martin Marietta, Calvin earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, in 1974, where he was proud to maintain a spot on the Dean’s List.
Calvin and Joyce had two more children, daughters Theresa and Anne, and by 1976, the family had moved to Daytona Beach. It was there that Calvin began a new career as Chief Estimator at Martin Paving Company, where he worked until his retirement in 2000.
Calvin had a serious yet quick-witted personality. He loved playing cards and dominoes, and he especially cherished spending time with family and friends. Calvin was a proud member of Central Baptist Church for forty-seven years. He also enjoyed golfing and attending NASCAR races in Daytona Beach for many years. Calvin proudly built his home on the Riviera Golf Course, where he lived for nearly fifty years. A skilled handyman, he often took on home repairs himself.
Calvin had a love for travel that began while stationed in Germany and continued throughout his life. He visited many countries including Austria, Barbados, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, England, France, Monaco, and Spain, along with numerous states across the U.S.
Calvin was preceded to heaven by his parents, siblings, and his beloved wife, Joyce. He is survived by their children: Douglas Martin (Michelle), Theresa Robinson (Chad), and Anne Klayer (Garrett); six grandchildren: Matthew Martin (Xin Xin), Lauren (Robinson) Rowley (Taylor), Lexi Robinson, Haley Jo (Robinson) Lehkamp (Justin), Courtney Klayer, and Caroline Klayer; and five great-grandchildren: Luke Martin, Mark Martin, Tate Rowley, Reed Rowley, and Calvin William Lehkamp.
