Charlene Colson

Charlene Ellis Colson of Syracuse, New York formerly of Grant County, KY was born May 10, 1933 in Corinth, KY and died Thursday, March 17, 2022 in Syracuse, NY at the age of 88.

Charlene was the daughter of the late Harry and Lillian (Littrell) Ellis. she was a stay-at- home mother and homemaker before returning to the workforce as an in-home caregiver, providing many families with her tender care. Later in life, she returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Biblical Literature degree from Ozark Christian College, in Joplin, MO. Charlene spent her entire life devoted to helping others, as well as being deeply devoted to her faith. One of many ways she enjoyed expressing her love of God was through being a Sunday School and Bible School teacher at North Syracuse Christian Church. Charlene was a loving mother and grandmother.

Charlene was also preceded in death by a son Kenneth L. Colson, two brothers, Jerry Ellis, Charlie Ellis and two sisters, Mary Louise Ellis and Betty Ann Hymer.

Surviving are: her son Richard K. (Maureen) Colson of Syracuse, New York, daughter-in-law Tracey (the late Kenneth) Colson of Crittenden; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Colson of Crittenden Jennifer (Zachary) McFarland of Florence and Christiana Colson of Syracuse, NY; 2 great-grandchildren, Jasper Roach of Crittenden and Rory Colson (McFarland) of Florence; 2 brothers, Garland Ellis of Alexandria, KY and Layel Ellis of Ft. Myers, FL; and 1 sister Salley Sue Sebree of Cordova.

The Colson family wishes to express their thanks and sincere gratitude to PACE CNY, and Loretto’s staff at the Heritage and Cunningham for the care provided in Charlene’s latter years.

Donations may be made to Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery Fund.

Funeral services will be at 1:00pm, Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the Antioch Christian Church in Corinth, KY with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will also be 11:00am-1:00pm on Thursday at the church.
