Clarence E. "Sandy" Mahan

January 20, 1956 — July 27, 2024

Mr. Clarence Edward "Sandy" Mahan of Dry Ridge, walked into the arms of Jesus on July 27, 2024 at the age of 68 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

He was born on January 20, 1956 to Clarence "Buddy" Mahan and Shirley Jean Lloyd Mahan in Grand Rapids, MI.  Sandy attended Revive Church in Dry Ridge where he could often be seen greeting worshipers with smiles, hugs and always a kind word.  He was raised and attended school in Corbin, KY where he sang in choir and played football.  He briefly attended Eastern KY University.  Sandy coached Grant Co. Youth Football a few years and he loved the kids and teaching them the game.  He loved fishing, golfing and karaoke.  He had a passion for bluegrass music and loved to play the banjo and guitar.  He followed NASCAR, the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds, and loved UK Basketball and Football.  He would even alter his work schedule to catch a game.

Sandy was a former construction supervisor, clamp truck driver and most recently a medical courier.  One of his greatest joys in life was his grandchildren.  He was known to many as Sandman or Santa.  He enjoyed dressing as Santa and spreading cheer.  The last few years he and his wife dressed as Mr. & Mrs. Claus and visited the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center passing out cookies and candy to the doctors, nurses and staff.

Sandy is survived by his life partner of 30 years and wife, Jenna Pelfrey Mahan, mother Shirley Jean (Wallace) Ledford, brother Randy (Sharon) Mahan, sons Jason and Tony, stepson Greg (Tracy) Souder, grandsons Tanner (Macy) Souder, Conner Souder, Bryson Souder and great granddaughters Phoenix Spohn and Emersyn Souder.  He was preceded in death by his father Clarence "Buddy" Mahan and granddaughter Taylor Souder.

Visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2024 from 11am-1pm at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home, 500 N.
