Clarence David Oakes, 75, of Dry Ridge, KY, passed away on Monday April 14, 2025 at Boonespring Skilled Nursing Facility in Union. Born on October 24, 1949, in Jellico, KY, he was the son of the late Clarence "Cotton" and Margaret Smitty Oakes.
Clarence was united in marriage to the former Karen Sue Curtis; she preceded him in death on August 20, 2008. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. For over 20 years, he was a truck driver with LASCO Transportation; he previously was a warehouse manager for Trancy Logistics. Golfing, horseracing and listening to Doo-wop music were among his favorite pastimes.
Those left to carry on his legacy include two sons: Clarence David (Tammy) Oakes, Jr. of Union, KY, Shane Foster (Amanda) Milner of Union, KY; two daughters: Gina Renee (Ronald) Hazelbaker of Dry Ridge, KY, Heidi Michelle (Herb) Smith of Walton, KY; one brother: Terry "John" (Ronda) Oakes of Richmond, VA and one sister: Lucille (late Donnie) McIntyre of Walton, KY. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called him “Papaw”, and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him. Preceding him in death is a brother: Ricky Lynn Oakes; a sister: Shirley Arnold and a grandson: Mason Smith.
Visitation will be Saturday April 19, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.at Stanley Funeral Homes – Crittenden. He will be laid to rest next to his late wife, Karen, in New Bethel Cemetery in Verona.
