Curtis Smith , 83, of Walton, KY, (formerly of Verona) passed away Tuesday April 27, 2021 in Nashville, TN, on their last leg of a trip back from their winter camping in Salome, AZ. Born on Thursday August 12, 1937 in the Mt. Pisgah Community of Wayne County, KY, he was the son of the late Fletcher and Beulah Jones Smith.
On August 7, 1971 at Erlanger Baptist Church, Curtis was united in marriage to the former Carolyn Sue Smith; this August they would have celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary. He served in the National Guard between the Korean War and Vietnam War. For many years he worked for Smith & Brown Construction in Harrison, OH, working himself up to Superintendent of the company. He enjoyed farming and was involved in many outdoor activities. In his early years, he loved flying airplanes and performing aerobatic maneuvers. For the past 17 winters, he and his wife spent the winter months in Arizona; his greatest joy was giving four-wheeling tours in the desert to locals and vacationers. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Verona where he had been a very active member, serving as a trustee and Chairman of the Building Committee.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Carolyn Sue Smith; one son: Charles “Chuck” Smith of Walton, KY; one brother: Philip (Ruth Ann) Smith of Paris KY; one sister: Louise Goff of Monticello, KY and two sister-n-laws: Jenny Smith of Monticello, KY and Patricia Smith of Oregon. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald Smith, Johnny Smith, Kenneth Smith; three sisters: Maudena (Ray) Orr, Pauline (Raymond) Burnett and Lily Lucido.
Visitation will be Monday May 3, 2021 at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 6:00 with Rev. Chad Brannon officiating.
Visitation will continue Tuesday from 12 Noon to 1:00 p.m. at Hicks – Vaughn Funeral Home (647 North Main) Monticello, KY with Rev. Ron Andrew officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Spring Valley Cemetery in Monticello, KY.
