James “Dale” Jackson, 84, of Dry Ridge, KY, entered his eternal home on Monday August 12, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center – Williamstown, Hospice Care. Born on May 20, 1940, in Middlesboro, KY, he was the son of the late Robert Lester and Merle Fields Jackson. On December 16, 1976, he was united in marriage to the former Judy Carol Kannady; she survives. Upon graduating from Harlan High School, he pursued his dream of playing for a professional Baseball team, to which he was accepted, but because of an injury he sustained, he was not able to fulfill that dream. At that point he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he initially served in Korea but was later transferred to Vietnam; after honorably serving his country he earned the rank of Specialist E-4. His last “hooray” came on April 16, 2024 when he was able to be honored for his military service through an Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. He worked as a machine operator for Arvin Meritor in Carrollton for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, fishing and farming; he was an avid supporter of UK Sports, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals. He held membership in the United Auto Workers, National Wild Turkey Federation, Grant Co. Homemakers and Elliston Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of almost 48 years, Judy Jackson; two sons: Robert Dale (Mary) Jackson of Hardyville, SC, James “Jimmy” Dale Jackson II of Covington, KY; one daughter: Melissa “Gayle” (Mark) Jackson-Stuller of Fort Wayne, IN; one sister: Ann (Paul) Ray of Johnson City, TN, along with four grandchildren: Jessica (David John) Capell, Ian (Brandi) Michael Howard, Kimberly Cantonwine and Amber Cantonwine; five great-grandchildren: Finn David Capell, Brianna Rae Howard, Bethany Elaine Howard, Grace Cantonwine, Greyson Cadden and two sister-n-laws: Earlene Jackson of Lakeland, FL and Amelia Jackson of Walton, KY. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Karen (Glenn) Howard, Renee Cantonwine; two brothers: Glenn Jackson Carl Jackson and one sister: Sue (Walter) Sergent. Visitation will be held Tuesday August 20, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m at Stanley Funeral Homes – Williamstown. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 with Pastor Rex Gibson and Rev. Howard Chipman officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – North where full military honors will be observed.
