David Thurston Richie

David Thurston Richie , 84, of Berry, KY, entered his eternal home on Thursday August 22, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center - Edgewood. Born on November 25, 1939 in Fayette County, KY, he was the son of the late Homer and Nora Elizabeth Stephens Richie.

On November 25, 1961, he was united to the love of his life, the former Linda J. Evans, a relationship that lasted almost 63 years. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force. For over 50 years he was the owner and operator of Richie Backhoe Service. He loved to fish and work on the farm.  He will long be remembered for his strong work ethics.  He loved every minute he was able to operate his equipment. He began operating heavy equipment while stationed at Andersen AFB on Guam and never stopped.  In earlier years he sang with the “Gospel Ambassadors”, a gospel group from Lexington that traveled all over spreading the Gospel through the means of music. He was honored by being appointed to a KY Colonel and was a devoted member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer for 25 years.

Those left to caring on his legacy of commitment and hard work include: his loving wife, Linda J. Richie; two sons: David Andrew (Valerie) Richie of Berry, KY, Daniel Edwin (Michelle) Richie of Williamstown; a daughter: Katie (Dustin) Mainous of Berry, KY; one sister: Janet Sue (David) Dickerson of Nicholasville, KY, along with six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter…and a host of extended family and friends.  H e was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lynn Richie, a son, Mark Allen Richie; three sisters: Dorothy Richie, Elizabeth Wilson, Ann Conner and three brothers: Homer Ray Richie, Arthur Lee Richie and Thomas Scott Richie.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday September 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Willie Ailstock officiating. Visitation will be begin at 12 Noon and go until the time of the services.  A private burial will take place in the Corinth Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
