Deanna Kay Hinds, 77, passed away on May 17, leaving behind her husband, Joseph James Hinds, 74, of Florence, KY, and her son, John Austin Hinds, 47, of Stevensville, MD. Her husband retired as a Lt Col in the Air Force, and her son is a GS-15 in the Secret Service.
Deanna was born in Carlinville, IL, about 60 miles northeast of St. Louis, MO. She was nationally honored as President of the Southern Illinois Health Care Association by the Hospital Financial Management Association and “Good Morning America” in 1982. She was the owner of Wheeler Properties, Inc. out of Nevada with properties in Illinois and Kentucky. She graduated from Lincoln Land College, Springfield, IL, in 1983, honored as a Phi Beta Kappa with straight A’s and the Student Achievement Award also in 1983. Additionally, she was the Choir Director for over a decade at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Carlinville, IL. Furthermore, she played Hawaiian guitar and performed in southern Illinois with her mother and father and as a member of a ladies’ acapella trio. She also played the piano and tenor saxophone in a jazz band. She was a late member of WWII’s “Greatest Generation” and was a “teammate” with her husband, sharing in every step of their journey together. There was no “I” in teamwork with her. Even though she was an extremely talented artist with her paintings and music, she never focused on herself. She always did the right thing for her family and country. She traveled with her military husband around the United States, enjoying bases in Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, Nevada, Alabama, Delaware, and Texas. Her husband served in four military services over four decades, and she was always there to support him. Semper Fi, Deanna.
