Debbie Kay Brumley of Corinth, Kentucky entered into her eternal rest peacefully surrounded by her loving family early Saturday morning, July 6th, 2024 at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Edgewood, Kentucky; she was 71 years old. She was born in Middletown, Ohio on Sunday, February 15th, 1953 to the late Frank Childress and Bernie Fulks. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a second father, Bill Fulks; as well as a sister, Bonnie Shepherd, and a great-nephew, Brett Allen Richter.
Debbie, a natural caretaker in life and in her careers, worked for years as a custodian at the Corinth Schools System ensuring that students had a clean learning environment. As a cook, she prepared meals for truckers traveling down I-75 at the Noble’s Truck Stop in Corinth, as well as for the inmates held at the Grant County Jail. Later when her parents became ill and unable to care for themselves, it was Debbie who selflessly dedicated her life to taking care of them. An incredibly strong, family-oriented woman, she could always be counted on to be there for those that she loved.
A true “Flower Child” and free spirit at heart for all her days, Debbie adored the lifestyle and music of the 60s. Faith played a crucial part in her spirit as she was a devoted Christian all her life. An avid collector of everything she could get her hands on, Debbie took great pride in the array of cassette tapes of favorite artists and unique cigarette lighter collections that filled her home. She loved her bib overalls and all things Mikey Mouse, but her greatest love in life was her fur children. Her five dogs that brought her so much joy over the years: Forest, Mommy, Daddy, Bub, and Johnny; are now all available for adoption at the Grant County Animal Shelter. It was for these babies that she sacrificed everything, fighting through excruciating pain to remain at home to take care of them.
Debbie is survived by her adoring sisters: Peggy (Barry) Johnson of Springboro, Ohio and Robyn Memme of Kingston, Tennessee; a brother-in-law, Randy Shepherd; her beloved nieces, Shannon (Kenny) Hamilton of Springboro, Ohio, Emily Fetzer of Middletown, Ohio, and nephew Pat Memme; a treasured great-niece, Makennah Fetzer; as well as numerous close cousins. She comes from a big family who all treated each other like close brothers and sisters.
Debbie had wonderful neighbors who lived on each side of her, ones that loved her very dearly and helped care for her over the past year: David & Kathy Trunnell and Andy & Sarah Williams. These two families were great friends that together helped her with anything she needed and watched over her like family of their own. Though Debbie will be missed beyond words by those that she leaves behind, her loved ones take comfort in knowing that there will be so much family there to greet her on the other side.
A visitation for Debbie will be held on Saturday, July 13th, 2024 at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Corinth, Kentucky from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. Following the visitation, a funeral service beginning at 1:00PM will be held at the funeral home, officiated by Brother Howard Chipman. That afternoon following the funeral service, Debbie will be laid to rest alongside her beloved family at the Corinth I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Corinth, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers in memory of Debbie’s love for her dogs, the family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the Grant County Animal Shelter.
