Donald Harold Schmitt, Sr. of Cynthiana, Kentucky

Donald Harold Schmitt, Sr ., 76, a resident of Cynthiana, KY, died Monday March 18, 2019 at his residence. Born October 20, 1942 in South Carolina, he was the son of the late Herbert and Edith Schmitt.

On May 24, 1980, in Taylor, Michigan, Donald was united in marriage to the former Sandra Sue Byrd; she survives. For many years he was a truck driver for Detroit City Dairy. He was proud to have served our country for over five years in the U.S. Navy, having served in the 1959-1963 phase of the Vietnam War. Being a history buff, he especially loved reading about history and watching the History Channel. Other interests included collecting bi-centennial quarters, working at Walmart after retirement and being a true supporter of the Detroit Red Wings Ice Hockey Team. He held his church membership at Corinth Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sandra Sue Schmitt; two sons: Wade (Shirley) Len Caudill of Williamstown, KY, Donald Harold Schmitt, Jr. of Wisconsin; two brothers: Bill Schmitt of Florida, Terry Schmitt of Alabama; and two sisters: Pat Hodgens of Florida and Barbara Durham of Michigan. Three grandchildren also survive: Jordan Corrine Boylan, Trey Taylor and Harleigh Lynn Caudill. He was preceded in death by one brother: Joe Schmitt. Special recognition is given to his cats: Misty and Buttercup and to the memory of his dogs: Spencer, China and Nikki.

A memorial service will be held Saturday March 23 at Corinth Baptist Church at 12 Noon with Rev. Dennis Jackson officiating; visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Inurnment, with full military honors, will take place Monday March 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery – North in Williamstown, KY.
