Donald Ray Smith , 78, formerly of Elsmere, KY, currently living in Grant County, passed away Friday December 11, 2020 at the home of a daughter. Born Saturday September 12, 1942 in Ashland, KY (Boyd County), he was the son of the late Roy Clark and Irene Mae Spence Smith.
On March 18, 1967 Don was married to the former June Marie Bennett; she preceded him in death on October 6, 2017. He retired in 2001 as a supervisor for Milacron Industries in Oakley, OH. He was a 1961 graduate of Boone Co. High School where he played the position of Tackle on the Boone County High School Football Team, was manager of the Basketball Team and served as Senior Class Chaplain. During the Vietnam Era he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a KY Colonel and a member of the Good Faith Masonic Lodge #95; he was a committed member of Kento-Boo Baptist Church in Florence, but attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist in Owen Co. with his family after making his move to this area.
He leaves to cherish his memory, four daughters: Holly Anne (Bill) Johnson of Walton, Pamela Kaye (Beau) Archambault of Burlington, Anna Marie (Darin) Collins of Corinth, Amy Lynn (Mike) Souther of Dry Ridge; three brothers: Ronald Lee (late Erna) Smith of El Paso, TX, James Darrell (Janice) Smith of Crittenden, Douglas (late Wilma) Smith of Owenton and one sister: Phyllis Irene Smith Knarr of Dry Ridge.
Eight grandsons also survive, all of whom will be serving as pallbearers: Cody Melcher, Dalton Johnson, Payton Johnson, Gregory (Autumn) Collins, Michael Chase Souther, Miller Souther, Ryan Collins and Ike Archambault. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Roy Clark Smith, Jr., Charles W. “Bill” Smith and Larry Roger Smith and one sister: Mary Ann Smith.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 17, 2020 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Homes (Williamstown location). Funeral services will be Friday, December 18th at 12:30 p.m. with arrival time at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – North in Williamstown, KY at 2:00 p.m. Full Military Honors will be performed.
