Mrs. Doshie Perry Smith, a Williamstown resident, passed away at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, KY on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 after a long illness. She was the loving wife of George Ray Smith, Sr.
Doshie was born in Chattanooga, TN on September 19, 1946 to the late Elmer Perry and Vina Estridge Perry. While in Tennessee she attended Hemlock and Glennwood schools, then moved to the Chicago area where she continued her elementary schools at Midwest Christian Academy, St. Hedwigs, Chicago Christian Academy, Timothy Christian High School and graduated Lake View High School. She went on to college and attended the College of De Page in Glen Ellyn, IL,, Harper Jr. College in Palatine, IL, Waubonsia Jr. College in Aurora, IL and Cook County Jr. College in Melrose Park, IL. She was a former Sunday School Teacher, Christ Ambassador, and was a member of the Women's Missionary Council. She was a former member of the Women's Strowger Club, a member of the church choir, and former member of the Belmont Gospel Church, Central Assembly of God, Lombard, IL, Cornerstone Assembly of God, Dry Ridge, KY, Corinth Assembly of God and recently a member of the Lawrenceville Baptist Church where she helped with the nursery, kitchen and was a choir member.
Doshie's full time previous employment included; Sr. customer relations correspondent for the Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Chicago, IL for 5 yrs; 17 yrs as the executive secretary to the general manager for GTE Automatic Electric Business communications in Northlake, IL; 17 yrs as the secretary to the chairman of the board of the Anchor Bolt and Screw Co, in Melrose Park, IL, and 5 yrs as a Wal-Mart cashier in Dry Ridge, KY. Her part time employment included 3 yrs at Ace Hardware in Elmhurst, IL, 3 yrs at MacFrugals (Big Lots) in Lombard, IL, David's Bridal in Lombard, IL, and Cubs Pharmacy in Lombard, IL as a pharmacy technician.
Doshie holds licenses as a pharmacy tech, CPS Certified Professional Secretary and Food Services manager. She loves to travel, camp, make crafts, embroidery, read novels, write German poetry, YMCA, Libraries, Bicycling, jogging, speed roading, swimming, workout at Body Works Gym in Dry Ridge, KY, and volunteer at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Grant County at the nurse's station. Her favorite pastime hobbies was babysitting and spending time with her granddaughters.
In 1964, Doshie married the love of her life, George Ray Smith, Sr. From this union was born their son, George Randel Smith, Jr. In addition to her husband and son, lives her beloved granddaughters, Taylor (Tyler) Trosper of Hebron, KY and Faith R. Smith of Crittenden, KY.
Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2024 from 10am-12noon at the Elliston - Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown, KY. Funeral services will be at 12 noon. Rev. Jay Holt will be officiating services. Burial will follow at the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Holbrook, KY. Memorials are suggested to the Lawrenceville Baptist Church.
